I have had my machine for over 8 years now and it has been with me through a move and several different locations. I have loved this thing since the day I unboxed it! It makes fantastic coffee, the steamer is such a great feature (use it all the time for various things), the grinder is still strong and sharp, the basic parts last a long time and are simple to replace when needed, and it is very easy to clean and maintain. My ONLY gripe is that there are no servicing locations in the US. I am starting to have some issues with it I can't figure out on my own and am worried it may be on its last legs if I cant find someone to service it. Otherwise, it has been like part of the family ^-^

I literally use this machine every single day. (Except when away for trips) Some days 2 doubles, some days 4 or more. This machine has saved me THOUSANDS over the years. I want to upgrade, but I'm riding this until the wheels fall off. So far, I have not needed ANY replacement parts whatsoever. This machine is a CHAMP! After 6 years, I got the Niche Zero and that made a huge difference.
It's an excellent choice at any point!

Great investment
This is my 2nd machine. It took me a bit to dial in the shot pull. I had to change the burr grinder, change the grind size several times, find the right amount to drop, and eventually weigh the coffee to make sure I could do it the same each time. Even though it was frustrating at times, I knew it would be worth it once I got it. Once you have a machine, you can't go back to regular coffee :) #1stworldproblems

Long overdue purchase for me, well worth it.
After 8 years of regular visits to my local coffee shop, it was finally time to make this purchase. The shop was just getting worse and worse with it's quality, regularly missing ingredients, not open when I needed them, and regularly raising their prices.
That being said, this machine has been incredible. It took almost a full bag of coffee to get used to it, but now... it's ON.
It's a high quality device that has tons of features (that I discovered after watching a few quick youtube videos)

Having a pressure gauge is the most important feature
I bought a cheap espresso machine from a different company. It worked, but I never liked what came out of it. I couldn't tell if I was over-extracted or under-extracted or by how much. I just knew it tasted bad. (Plus, I was using preground espresso roast coffee.)
With this, I grind my own beans. I can see by the pressure gauge when my espresso is perfect. If the gauge is too low or too high, I can adjust my grind (I usually try to keep 18 grams of beans for a double shot).
I thought I would use the milk steamer every day. I actually don't. I'm more of an iced coffee (with espresso shots or cold brew) or Americano girl. But about once a week, I like a latte. When I make one, this makes really good lattes. Can I make pretty latte art with it? Oh, heck no. That would require more practice than I'm willing to give. But the blobs on top of my latte taste just as wonderful as the hearts that show up at the coffee shop.
The hot water dispenser is really wonderful. I use that every day. One quick turn of the dial, and I have just exactly enough hot water for an Americano (and it then shuts the water off) before making my coffee. It's a brilliant thing to do.
The grinding chute (at the end) is a bummer. The portafilter I got with my machine was just a standard one. I have seen other Barista Express machines come with a funnel attachment, but mine didn't. Trust me, you need that. It should be a standard with the machine. Otherwise, you will have grounds all over the place. I think they could have designed the dispenser a little better. Still, it was an easy fix with a quick purchase of a funnel.
The portafilter itself is really difficult to separate. I have to use a butter knife to wedge between the groove to pop it out of place. I solved the issue by just buying a second portafilter, and I use the original for single shots and the second one for double shots. They aren't that expensive, and it was easier than fussing with it.
So, I love the machine. It took me about a month to perfect getting my Americano and latte the way I wanted because I was a total newbie. But I'm thrilled with it.

Love my Breville Barista Express!
Wow! I love this product and this company. I am a mechanical design engineer and truly appreciate the design that has gone into this amazing machine. The quality and style are both impressive. It looks great and performs wonderfully. I enjoy the manual controls and the online instructions that are quickly getting me up to speed as a confident home barista. I'm still working on my latte artistry, but after dialing in several bags of locally roasted coffees, I humbly submit that my caps, long whites, and lattes stand up to any of the excellent cafes in my area! I literally prefer the drinks made at home now to any I've tried elsewhere! What a bold statement. What a beautiful machine! Thank you, Breville. You guys are the best!!

Best purchase ever.
Bought this as a birthday present for myself and I’m never going to regret it. We’ve already saved the cost of this machine with the number of drinks we have made since March. I would highly recommend it if you love cappuccino, espresso, etc..

My Barista Express's Fifth Anniversary
I brewed my first espresso with a remanufactured Barista Express 870XL five years today and have consistently outstanding results ever since. I regularly clean and decalcify my unit. Which goes to show that if you take care of your Breville espresso machine it will take care of you.

I have wanted this Barista Express for a long time !!!
Finally I own this Barista Express. We so enjoy having an Americana every day after a meal. This is better than driving someplace and paying $$$ for an Americana. This makes a great cut off coffee.

I had a friend ask me about my Breville coffee machine. I looked up the model and it is still around. I bought it after a trip to Spain, almost 10 years ago. All I could say was Cafe con leche. And I saw Breville machines. Breville has always been my go to brand.

Perfect Choice!

No, the Breville® BES870 Barista Express® can extract espresso, dispense hot water, and heat and froth milk. It does not make drip coffee, however hot water can be added to the espresso to create Americanos.
