Great quality and performance at reasonable cost
I installed this downdraft hood myself, so got to see the construction details. Seems a good quality build. We like the variable speed blower controls.
The description of the model we purchased clearly states "In-line blower sold separately". There is another model that does include a blower, so be sure you are purchasing the model you need. Our home already had an installed blower and duct-work from a previous installation. The Broan model we purchased worked perfectly with the existing blower.

Still Working Great After 14 Years
We installed this downdraft range hood with a gas cook top. We never use the cook top without running the fan. It works great, and on high, sucks all odors and smoke away from the cook top. Just one minor peeve, the two filters sometimes do not want to come out. And after 10? years, we had enough heat that the pull tabs on the filters melted and stretched. The filters still come out, and the tabs have not broken.
When it was first installed, the installer put the filters in backwards, with the tabs inaccessible on the inside. I used a credit card to get up and behind the filters, and they were off. And then put them back in correctly.
Based on our recommendation, my mother-in-law has one with an electric cook top. She loves it, but is bothered by the fan noise.

Downdraft vent replacement
Downdraft vent works really great - glad this product was recommended to me versus my original Boch vent which broke and was far more expensive to replace and did not work any better

Love my downdraft vent!
I had to keep my existing kitchen cabinet layout for my renovation plan to keep costs down. Using my existing cabinets meant that I had to solve a real problem with steam from my cooktop- it collected on the original upper cabinet base and dripped back into the pot. Ick. Incorporating a downdraft vent into the plan let me keep the cooktop where it needed to stay, and totally saved all my in-place re-finished cabinets!

Great Downdraft Range Hood ..Perfect for Our Needs
We did a lot of research before selecting this Broan Downdraft Range Hood. We selected it based on reviews and price point, and of course because its measurements and configuration worked in our new granite counters. It has been in place for about 8 months now and we are very happy with it. 1. It SUCKS! It does a good job of venting from the cooktop 2. The up/down function works well 3. It looks good 4. It is noisy on the highest speed but not bad at all on the lower speeds. Highly recommend this product.

Love it.
We installed the 500 CFM Downdraft behind a 30 inch slide in gas range, we were very happy that it was so easy. You'll love it as much as we do.

Broan downdraft ventilation system
I had model 273003 for twenty years in my house. It is an outstanding product. I never had to have anything repaired on it. My cooktop was on an island and I did not want an overhead hood type exhaust. We are currently building a new home and I am definitely having the same system installed. Great Product.

Great hide away exhaust fan
This item was exactly what I wanted. Stylish and futuristic while not compromising effectiveness. The telescoping fan works smoothly and quietly, and the fact that the blower is inclusive in this unit saved big dollars and installation work. It i not for the the novice do-it-yourselfer though. A proficiency in using tools, cutting and fitting a unit in place is a must. I recommend the average homeowner should probably hire a professional installer. But if like me you've installed dishwasher, windows, toilets, trash compactors and you want a rewarding and above average challenge, then go for it. My wife initially wanted an overhead exhaust and hood, but is very pleased I talked her into going with this over our island so as not to disturb the open feel of our kitchen.

Feedback on Vent
It has worked out fine albeit a bit noisy. I was also disappointed with the lack of instructions for placement of the mesh vents...I still haven't figured that out yet.

Good idea; some work needs doing on the implementation
I do really like my Downdraft. I have no other way of getting rid of cooking smoke, etc. My one big complaint: You can't clean it below the filters. I'm sure there is stuff that drips down the sides of it, but I can't get to any of it to clean it. I think, over time, it will build up and smell, as well as attract bugs. That's a real flaw.

Good vent for the price
I really like the way this vent works - I didnt give it perfect scores for two reasons -
I was putting it in where I previously had a downdraft stove - to connect the vent to the previous opening took a lot of creativity. If the vent wasnt so tall or you could place the exhaust on either side, it would be helpful providing more room for installation.
the suction is good, not great - I think if you buy the external fan, it prvides more suction, but it also makes the unit more expensive. Overall good, not great. but still worth the money

loud metallic clicking when raised or lowered
Got the downdraft 273003 installed just yesterday. Noticed that when raising or lowering the unit it makes a very loud metallic click. Looks like some metallic scratching noise. Would have purchased a more expensive brand if I had known I would face so many issues.

Great when its working...
We've had this downdraft for almost 2 years. It's great when working—powerful, effective. But twice in 2 years it's gotten stuck in a loop where it goes up and down, up and down, not responding to the on/off switch. We had to remove all the island drawers to get in there and unplug it. When we finally tracked down a service guy, it had "corrected" itself, so he wasn't able to do anything with it. Now 6 months later it's having the same problem, only now it's out of warranty. Not happy with this purchase. Would not buy again.

Questionable design has some unfiltered air!
Questionable design since not all the air is filtered that goes through the blower. How is this device even legal and on the market? We noticed some grease leaking from the bottom of the unit. After uninstalling the unit to clean it, to my horror I noticed that the center of the air intake was not filtered! Do not buy this unit.

Broken on arrival, replacement parts on back order
I, like other people before, have a switch issue and the loud metallic clunking noise when it goes up and down. It's a brand new unit and now the parts to fix it are on back order. I was hoping to save some money with this unit, but obviously it has reliability issues. I should have just spent a little more and got a GE. Lesson learned and it will be my last Broan purchase.

Completely impractical and impossible to clean
Filters can be removed and cleaned but they are so ineffectual that grease ends up accumulating and then pouring out of the bottom of the device. There is no removable grease trap. At least every six months we have to remove the fan unit and degrease it. This is no easy task. The rising part of the unit cannot be removed for cleaning without (get this!) removing the whole of the cooktop. The design so far as maintenance and cleaning is concerned is flawed. In would not recommend this product at all and works issue any prospective purchaser to investigate alternative solutions.

Not a good Unit, Don't Buy It!
Purchased this with an in counter cook top for a remodel. It is rarely used, and has malfunctioned multiple times. See other review for unit getting in a cycle where it goes up and down, but will not stop in the usable position to turn on. I have this problem now, its third problem.
