The Control Lock Feature almost had me fwoom
Listen, I was in the middle of a whole rant leaving a 1 star review when I finally figured out what was going on. Now that I know what the problem was, I can leave a good review.
The problem I was having, was that my "Control Lock" feature somehow got activated. Possibly because I shoved a bunch of stuff up next to the control panel while I was re-organizing my laundry room.
If something similar happens to you, this is what I eventually found from the user manual:
PROBLEM: the LOCK icon is on the panel and you can only power on or off.
SOLUTION: hold the RINSE and SPIN buttons down to activate or de-activate the control lock.
I can see how this would be a great safety feature for anyone with kids, so that they can't accidentally get trapped inside and can't put the family pet in there in the three seconds since the parent looked away. Now that I know what happened, I love the product more.
This washer replaced my 30 year old set from another brand which served many members of my family well and then I passed onto a friend. I have been extremely happy with this Washer (and dryer) since my family gifted it to me. My clothes come out looking bright, there's no damage to my clothes since I decided to get the model without the center agitator, and the washer has so far been easy to clean between cycles. I haven't had any issues with mildew either.

I've had three GE washers in the past, but the GE Profile is far and away superior to those. The number of options is perfect for my various washer needs. It is also a high efficiency model, so less detergent is required. In addition, it requires less water to run a load.

Nice easy to read display
This washing machine was just installed and I have run the test load with nothing in it and it worked fine. I have ran 2 additional loads to test the different functions and it seems to be working as it is supposed to. So far, for the first day, I am very happy with the new washer!

I previously had a front loader and loved the capacity of it, but hated the constant cleaning of the ring around the door and the drain. I have only done 3 loads but this has plenty of room for large items and is quieter than our last washing machine.

I love it, except for the deep tub. I have to stand on a step stool to get the clothes out. I love that it doesn't have a agitator in it. It took me alittle bit of time about 10-15 minutes to figure how to get it to work. Now I try to find clothes to wash; to wash more then my regular wash day which is mostly Saturday. It's fun to wash clothes now. I also, love the GE brand, it's a great brand, I am not a Samsung lover, I had front loading washer and dryer and they didn't even last 2 yrs.

I like the spin cycle that's so fast the clothes come out fairly dry. There's lots of options, which makes washing clothes, towels and blankets at different soil levels a lot easier.
