How to Use Your Outdoor Space This Fall
Posted on October 31, 2022 By Alison PSummer may be over, but there's plenty of enjoyment to be had in the cooler weather of autumn! Being outdoors is a great way to de-stress and elevate your mood, and crisp weather and beautiful foliage make autumn a perfect time to revel in the open air. Here are some of our favorite tips for making the most of your outdoor space this fall.
Heat Things Up
When the temperature dips, there are lots of options for an outdoor heat source. A fire pit provides nice ambiance while keeping everyone cozy. If you're in need of seating, a fire pit set comes with individual seats or in a sectional couch style that can accommodate anywhere from 2 to 6 people. If you're looking for something more low-maintenance, a patio heater provides steady and even heat for outdoor areas while still keeping people spaced apart. Just in case we need to say it, these heat sources should only be used in an open area!
Add Layers
Throwing on a sweatshirt is just the beginning - keep comfortable in cool weather by adding layers to your outdoor space wherever you can. If your outdoor seating doesn't have cushions, improvise with a few thick throw pillows and keep some fuzzy blankets on hand. To create an even cozier feel, why not lay down a rug? It'll create another layer of insulation while adding a welcoming domestic touch. If you've got the framework, adding curtains around a porch or gazebo might be a good option, too - just make sure the curtains stay a safe distance away from any open flames!
Get Cooking
What better way to enjoy a sunny autumn day than with a meal al fresco? Barbecuing is probably the first culinary activity that comes to mind, but if you want to take your outdoor cooking to the next level, try an outdoor pizza oven, smoker, or even a turkey fryer. Once everything's ready, gather everyone around the patio table and dig in!
Rock Out
If you're looking to add a soundtrack to your outdoor space, there are plenty of options for outdoor speakers. While some models are made for indoor/outdoor use, others are exclusively outdoor and feature a weatherproof build to withstand the elements. Choose the best option depending on your audio needs, and get some mileage out of your autumn playlist.
Veg Out
Looking for some open-air entertainment? An early-evening outdoor movie night is easier than you think. Outdoor projectors can be found for under $200, and a screen can be created by hanging up a sheet or just using the side of a building (as long as you're not beaming any light directly into your neighbor's window)! If you're looking for something you can use during the day, and you've got more wiggle room in your budget, maybe think about investing in an outdoor TV. These TVs have a brightness level that's specifically designed for viewing in full daylight, and everyone will be able to clearly see what's onscreen. Outdoor TVs are built with a weather-resistant exterior and a weathertight cable entry system, providing the durability needed in the great outdoors. It's a great way to revel in fresh air while enjoying movies, sports, gaming, and beyond.
Drink Up
Stay warm outside from the inside out with a supply of hot drinks. Coffee and tea are always trusty standards, but special occasions may call for hot cider, cocoa, and perhaps a hot toddy for the grownups! Throw in some extras like cinnamon, marshmallows or whipped cream, and you'll enjoy beverages that are as delicious as they are functional.
Protect Your Investments
When wintertime rolls around, make sure you're covered. Patio furniture covers, barbecue covers, fire pit covers, and patio cushion storage bags will keep your gear safely protected until next year.
