A winner!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just finished installing our new downdraft fan along with new KitchenAid gas cooktop.
Everything about the transaction has been great; timely shipping, helpful and courteous delivery team, good looking fan fit and finish. Clearly designed to work well with a gas cooktop without distrupting the flame, yet very effective at removing steam and odor.

Very happy with it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The vents raise high enough to pull in the smell but not affect the flames of the burners (an issue we had with previous downdraft). A bit noisy but looks nice and is easy to clean.

After repair works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I installed this downdraft unit myself, Fairly straight forward until I powered unit befor final installation.
Back would pop up but fan would not come on.
After waithing 6 days to get a tech out to look at it he found out that at the factory the switch to the fan motor was not connected.
Quality control could be better. It was very frustrating to have to wait another week to get our kitchen back to being able to use it.

Sleek and efficient
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In our newly remodeled kitchen we wanted an efficient way to remove cooking odors and steam from our cooking surface but didn’t wanted overhead hood. This appliance accomplishes that very efficiently & good looking too.

Love this downdraft!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this downdraft, and had it installed a few weeks ago, and really like it!! It works great, and is so much taller than our last one, so it doesn't such the burner flame out!!

Makes our kitchen so open!
Great to not have a huge vent hood. Allows us to have the cooktop on the island.

clean look
Am very happy with this downdraft. Unit was a little hard to install due to "pop-rivets" sticking out on sides. When installing in granite, you need to allow a little extra for these rivets.

Works like a dream
This item was installed at the end of our new island and fit perfectly. So far no one has even asked what it is, but when we hit the little button... Wow is all you hear!

Very functional and stylish!
Retractable downdraft clears kitchen odors and smoke quickly and efficiently.
Three fan settings low, medium and high. Retracts out of sight on granite countertop. Matching Kitchenaid induction cooktop boils water in less than 30-60 seconds! Very happy we bought both Kitchenaid products. Customer service is great!

Good ventilation
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No need for overhead ventilation system. Very sleek looking. Like that it is retractable and when not in use, it just looks like part of the cooktop.

Works Well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced an older model downdraft and like the new one very much. It comes up higher than my old one and collects more of the smells and steam.

Not too loud
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was afraid I wouldn't use a load venting system, but this one is not overpowering.

Downdraft fan
We bought this fan over a year ago, but are just now installing it. (Kitchen remodels can take a long, LONG time) It's working beautifully, but as I said, we just installed it. I'll get back if it screws up - but I'm not expecting it to, as all of our other Kitchenaid products have worked VERY nicely. I have to add that some of the features you ask about below I really can't address at this time. But one thing I do know: it's SO much quieter than our friends' fan. I LOVE that!

Very compact and works efficiently. A bit noisy while operating on high speed. Otherwise works well and very easy to clean the filters.

Stylish vent
This is a sleek, stylish product with a very strong fan. Installation was challenging (it took us three tries to find a handyman who could do it), but once in place it looks great.

Works OK but not so stylish
We have our stove in an island so we had to get a downdraft. This one is pretty and it works great, but I thinks it goes way too high when you turn it on, what makes it look a little weird, because usually I have people seating on the other side of the island, and when I cook this thing goes really high so I can hardly see my guests on the other side. I works great and that´s what matters, but I wish it wasn´t that high.
Also, I though the sound level was going to be better since it is a new appliance with better technology, I guessed, but the noise is just as bad as the old one we had.

Seems to have plenty of power. My wife wishes it was flush with the surface of the counter top.

Pop up downdraft vent
Brought this product 2 months ago. Used it twice and was very pleased. Love that it comes up high and is able it vent the steam from the front burners. The third time I used the vent it would not retract all the way down. Called the repair service department for the store I purchased it from. It took 3 weeks for the part to come in then while the part was being put in another part broke. Would I recommend this product? At this time no!

Great streamline look and countertop saver
I bought this appliance as part of other 5 for kitchen remodeling. Using a retractable downdraft gave us bigger burners for same 30" cooktop. The drawback we found is that it was hard to retrofit using the existing vent location under the counter. The contractor had to build a adapter for it which basically took all the cabinet space under the cooktop. Perhaps, a more modular adapter would has help here.In addition, we had some problems with the on-off switch, which had to be replaced.

Not Sure Yet...
I've only used it a few times and did manage to knock over and crash a ceramic utensil holder when I lowered the vent, but I guess that's my problem. I did use it with a grill pan on the burner doing some small steaks with the fan on high and the smoke was definitely wafting to the ceiling, not being totally sucked in by the vent. But it has definitely solved a design problem since we have a very high cathedral ceiling in our kitchen which made an overhead vent impossible. But I must say, it looks so cool and makes me feel very Jetsons space age!

Good height when raised.
I have a stove in the island. Researched Kitchenaid extensively to ensure this would work in my situation. I like the height of this compared to other brands. But, altho it states reversible it still has a "bumped" out part that means it cannot install close to the appliance, like it would behind a cooktop. This isn't disclosed in the owners manual, as my contractor/installer told me. In any event it shows evidence of a powerful suction but honestly I wasted my money buying this. It's 6" away and would have been more effective if it were closer.
