My 25-year old Rainbird controller began last summer to start an extra watering cycle at 11:30 PM all on its own. So on advice of my winterization guy, I made a November (yes this is Michigan) purchase of Rachio 3. I will make the swap in ~April when our tundra thaws.

Easy and even easier
I had an old Rainbird controller and finally got fed up with the inability to control it with my phone. After much research, I finally decided to go with Rachio, since it seemed to be a disrupter in the space.
Switching of the controllers could not have been easier and the wiring was trivial. Connecting the controller to the WiFI works like other modern devices, such as Nest or Chromecast. After connecting, the zone setup was trivial as I could just walk around the property trying them one by one.
All I want now is a wireless soil moisture detector, but that does not yet seem available.

I love this controller. I had one installed at my building and it is so easy to use from my phone. I ordered an additional one for my house. The best feature is operating it from my phone. When geese decide to hang out in our yard I just turn on the sprinkler and they are gone.

Rain Skip Question
Great controller. Everything is as advertised.
I have two fixed schedules in addition to a smart schedule. I selected rain skip in the options for the fixed schedules. When a rain skip is applied to the smart schedule, it is not applied to the fixed schedules. How can I get the rain skip to affect the fixed schedule? Thanks. Happy customer!!

Although I did buy a Rachio irrigation controller, I ended up returning it because of an issue with my irrigation system unrelated to the controller. Hopefully once I get my system fixed, I’ll be able to buy a Rachio controller to control it. Thanks.
