Washers and Dryers: Types and Configurations

Washers are available in several configurations. The most common is a top-load washer, as clothes are loaded from the top of the machine. Front-load washers are just that: the door is located on the machine's front. Laundry centers are a one-piece washer and dryer, with the dryer always positioned on the top. These are available with electric or gas dryers. There are also combo washer dryers. This is a one-piece unit that will wash the clothes and then begin a drying cycle, eliminating the need to transfer the clothes from one machine to another.
