Good product for using with the Mac TimeMachine
Very pleased with the ease of setup and the lock and unlock feature of the unit. So far all is working as designed. I’m not using the backup tool in that I already have that strategy and tool in place.

Works flawless for me
If you need a simple home server for streaming media files and sharing documents between users in a home network, this is just perfect. I know that there are more features such as accessing de server from the Internet but I do not need these. I use the Twonkey DLNA server which works very well with our smart TV. We are on Linux and 2 PC's are mounting this home server as an external drive for maintenance and archiving. I also like the energy saving feature which spins down the drive after some idle time. This saves energy and is preventing wearing out equipment. As I never had any problem at all I can recommend this for simple home server use.

Love it!
I'm a professional Photographer and Graphic Designer. Reliable digital storage is important to me. I have had WD hard drives since my first computer.

Economical volume storage.
Recertified product was indistinguishable from new. Serves purpose as backup medium well. Be aware large datasets will take significant time to transfer. Not my first or last WD purchase.

Storage solution
Works like a charm. I use it to store my many sizable games. Takes a little longer to initiate in playing than SSD but after that initial load time there's no diff.

8TB Refurb External HDD Works great!
I use this HDD for my Plex Media Server and it works great! I share it over my network so i can put media on it from another computer. I have had no issues with any of my WD HDDs.

Fast for an external drive.
Faster than my last WD external drive. It is a 5 Tb and still works fine for storage. This recertified 8 Tb drive is impressive.

1 month in, and very happy 👍
Bought the 8TB version about a month ago. It made a very slight knocking sound when I first fired it up, but that completely vanished after 15-20 minutes, and it's been quiet since. I ran a full diagnostic, with the included software, just to be sure. I understand that this isn't an SSD, so the speed would not be as fast as my m.2, but I'm still impressed at how quick this little HDD moves. I also love the included software, so you can run the occasional diagnostic scan, and keep your files password protected. I highly recommend this product. 👍

Too Many Pictures!
My desktop says that I have too many pictures cramping my "storage", so I went looking for external storage. Purchased MY BOOK after reading another reviewer with the same storage problem with is pictures. Seems easy enough to use and has plenty of room. 1 Tb should be plenty of room for my pictures and music files!

Great, aside from some clicking
It works as it should, thankfully. It's still clicking some right out of the box, but I did get it refurbished and sent through the mail. It's still reading as good every time I have tested it.

Not for editing
OK for straight archiving, not for editing because it has to be 'woken up' constantly.

My Book 8TB (owned 3 wks)
Quick shipping. Worked immediately after plugging in. I was concerned that I couldn't use it to backup a system image (windows 10), but discovered that this was because it wasn't formatted with NTFS. After reformatting, it worked fine. I decided to use bitlocker for encryption instead of the WD software, for ease/transparency of use with windows 10.
My only small annoyance so far is that the drive seems to spin down after only a few minutes of non-use. This means that accessing it periodically (on the order of minutes) takes more time because it needs to spin up again each time.
I bought it to replace a seagate drive which died only shortly out of warranty. I hope this drive shows itself to be more reliable.

Works, but missing the activity light
It works, but I really miss the activity light on my other external drives that Western Digital used to put on the My Book drives. My other complaint is that the utilities that came with it are not backward compatable with my old My Book drives and made them inoperable.

Concerning ticking/clicking noises
Purchased for a system backup. The form factor is nice, and the options to get pretty large drives is great. But, when I powered mine up, I heard these irregular clicking/ticking noises about 1 to 5 seconds apart. It could be that these are just part of the motor moving the drive arm, but the noises persisted even when I wasn't trying to read or write any files. And they sure sounded like the sort of noises that indicate there's a mechanical problem with the drive itself. I found the noises to be pretty annoying, so I returned the drive and will look elsewhere.

Not worth Risk
Product failed after 2 weeks. I could not get it to power on. After a couple of days, I tried again and it powered on. Not worth taking the risk, I sent device back for refund.
